Monica Lopez Lau | recorder 

Monica Lopez Lau was born in 1979 in Mexico City and started to study recorder at the Escuela Nacional de Musica of the National Autonome University of Mexico (UNAM) under the guidance of Horacio Franco. She continued her studies under the guidance of prof. Walter van Hauwe at the Conservatoire of Amsterdam (The Netherlands), where she obtained the degree of Bachelor in Music in 2004. In June 2007 she obtained the "Diplôme de concert" in recorder at the Conservatoire of Lausanne (Switzerland) under the direction of Antonio Politano, specialising in contemporary music. In 2008 she obtained a first-class degree in Electronic Music at the Conservatoire of Venice "Benedetto Marcello" under guidance of Maestro Alvise Vidolin.
She has participated in several Masterclasses in ancient music with Rebecca Stewart, Christine Bayle, Gerd Luenenbuerger, and in contemporary music with Agostino Di Scipio, James Dashow and Jos Zwaanenburg. She is dedicated to Baroque music as well as to contemporary music, performing in Mexico and in Europe (The Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, France and Sweden) as a soloist and as a member of several chamber music ensembles, including Asko Ensemble, Orquesta de la Capella Cervantina, Orquestra del Coro Normalista, ExNovo ensemble and Arsenale.
Her numerous activities include performances at important festivals and music halls in Italy and abroad, amongst which "Elettro_shock" (Porcia, Italy) ‘Il suono del Sacro' (Marostica, Italy), ‘Mei Festival' (The Hague, The Netherlands), ‘Manca Festival' (Nice, France), ‘IV Encuentro Internacional de Musica Antigua' (Messico-city, Messico), "Exitime04" (Bologna, Italy) and "Portello River Festival" (Padua, Italy).
Composers who have written pieces especially for her include Maurizio Rodriguez, Federico Costanza, Davide Sibilla, Alessio Rossato, Paolo Squarzon, Lorenzo Tomio, Anders Forslund, Sacha Vanony, Oskar Lissheim-Boethius, Daniele Gugelmo, Gäel Navard and Roberto Girolin.
Recently she has been chosen to realise a project for Paetzold and electronic at the Multimedia Centre in Mexico City. .
